Devil's Lake

In Northeast Michigan, somewhere south of Mackinaw City, on the picturesque shores of Lake Huron, sits Stockton Cove.

It was a sleepy little tourist town where not much happened... until it wasn't.

Anxiety-ridden, fifteen year old Collin Evans, is secretly in love with his—reckless thrill-seeker and lifelong best friend—Mason "Death wish" Day. They unearth a cryptic journal while exploring the haunted Stockton mansion—William Garrison Stockton was the lumber baron who founded the town and made his fortune by stripping the land clean of all the old-growth lumber from nearly the entire county—inadvertently triggering a two century old curse to rear it's ugly head. As terrifying "Watcher" creatures begin stalking the town, the boys’ relationship is tested: Mason’s daredevil "protector" complex clashes with Collin’s paralyzing fear of Mason't death and being left behind—a dynamic Mason calls the "widow look." When the monsters lay siege to Collin’s home, destroying the illusion of safety, the group—including the pragmatic Jaylin and the erratic Damian—is forced to flee into the ancient, sentient Boxwood Forest to escape the slaughter.

Guided by the journal’s dark prophecies and a timeless Gatekeeper who has watched the town for two hundred years, the teens navigate the psychological horrors of the woods, where their deepest insecurities are weaponized against them. They discover that the town’s founder didn't just strip the land of timber; he tore open a wound in reality, incurring a debt that requires a blood price. At the edge of Devil’s Lake—a portal disguised as a quarry—Mason and Collin perform a desperate ritual, combining the blood of the "Breaker" and the "Key" to shatter the barrier between worlds, plunging them into a vibrant, alien Alternate Earth.

In this strange realm of indigo forests and red-boned trees, the group locates Aurelius, a majestic dragon chained by the corrupted spirit of the town’s founder, the Shadow King. To break the chains and save their hometown from total annihilation, the boys must fulfill the final prophecy: Mason must learn that true strength requires vulnerability, while Collin must embrace his terrifying power as a magical catalyst. Their romantic union becomes the engine that charges the magic needed to defeat the King’s Hunter, free the dragon, and heal the rift between the worlds, allowing them to return to Stockton Cove not just as survivors, but as the guardians of a new balance.
