Hello reader,
Thank you for visiting my website. I’m Penn Owen Hurst, and I’m glad you found your way here.
I live in downtown San Diego, which is an interesting choice for someone who is—by nature and preference—a bit of a recluse. Outside my window, there are people, traffic, and neon lights twenty-four hours a day. It’s loud, it's crowded, and it’s a lot.
But that’s usually where the best stories start, isn’t it? In the friction between the world we have and the one we wish we could build.
By day, I work in the heart of the machine. I spend my time in a massive distribution center, surrounded by the organized chaos of modern logistics. It’s a mindless job in some ways, but it’s the perfect fuel for a writer. While my hands are busy moving boxes, my mind is miles away—tinkering with a cyborg’s internal processors, navigating a blood-soaked fantasy trail, or figuring out how to hide an alien warship in a suburban garage.
I’m 40+ now, and I’ve spent my life as a bit of a wanderer. I’ve been an equipment tech, a repairman, and an adventurer on the backroads of this country. I’ve learned two things in those four decades: 1. Everything eventually breaks. And 2. Almost anything can be fixed if you have the right parts and enough heart.
That’s what I write about. Whether it’s post-apocalyptic grit, high-stakes sci-fi, or a dragon that needs waking, my stories are about the resilience of the human spirit and the unexpected love that keeps us moving. I write about the ordinary heroes—people may be a little weathered, a little tired, but who still show up when someone needs a hero... or just a friend.
I’m not a fan of crowds, but I am a fan of connection. I’m glad you’re part of this unlikely alliance. Stay a while. There are worlds to build, and I’m just getting started on the repairs.
Best,
Penn Owen Hurst
